Hiram Soto said his core values are honesty, integrity, openness and transparency.

“I’m a proud husband and father of three daughters, a youth soccer coach, and a longtime volunteer living the American Dream in Poway. I pledge to be an independent voice to counter the influence of developers, and to give you a stronger voice on City Council regardless of how much you make, what you look like, your age, religion, or political affiliation,” Soto wrote in his candidate statement.

Soto, who works for a sustainable energy nonprofit, formerly worked as a reporter for 10 years at the San Diego Union-Tribune, where he won a statewide investigative journalism award.

“I support an energy savings plan to help Poway become more energy independent. Together, we can create a more self-sufficient city that can thrive in a changing climate. I aim to strengthen the city’s budget and reduce the cost of living and doing business in our city,” he wrote in his statement.

“Right now, Poway is the only city in the county without a climate action plan. We can do better. I support fully funding first responders to enhance public safety, and protecting Poway’s treasured parks, trails and open spaces.”
